Press release: AERQ enables the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Digital Concert Hall D2C streaming in the aircraft cabin

Every cabin a concert hall
Hamburg, 25 May 2023 – AERQ, a provider for digital cabin solutions, and the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Digital Concert Hall, a pioneer in the D2C streaming media space aim to bring an exceptional concert experience with one of the world’s best orchestras to passengers in aircraft cabins. This marks AERQ’s first step on an industry-needed migration path to enable direct-to-consumer (D2C) streaming in the cabin.
AERQ will integrate the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Digital Concert Hall in their digital platform AERENA. This will allow passengers to enjoy a concert experience at 30,000 feet with the same quality as in their living room. The solution will demonstrate that D2C streaming in the cabin is not only possible with limited in-flight connectivity bandwidth but can also create new and exciting opportunities for airlines and streaming service providers alike. It will allow airlines to go beyond typical co-branding partnerships with streaming services by offering features that enable the creation of a proxy of the streaming service experience known from your living room while enabling new ancillary revenue streams.
This is possible thanks to AERENA, AERQ’s cloud-based and modular open IT platform that allows instant onboarding o fthird parties. With AERENA, airlines can update media content, customise their user interface, manage their applications and create their unique on-board product easy and fast.
“We are proud to collaborate with such a renowned partner in terms of quality content and D2C streaming expertise. This showcases the possibilities of AERENA to open new revenue opportunities for airlines and their selected partners”, said Arnd Kikker, Co-Managing Director at AERQ.
“For the last fifteen years, the Digital Concert Hall has brought concerts with the Berliner Philharmoniker to the living room. We are now excited to take this great experience to new heights with the help ofAERQ”, said Maximilian Merkle, Managing Director at Berlin Phil Media GmbH.
“This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the quest to migrate D2C streaming in the cabin and it is achieved with limited in-flight connectivity bandwidth. This demonstrates the know-how of our experts and the power of our digital platform AERENA”, said Son Yob (Louis) Pak, Co-Managing Director at AERQ.
